Interstate Licensure Compacts
Most states are part of at least one interstate licensure compact. These multistate agreements allow licensed workers
to provide consistent, quality care to patients while practicing seamlessly within the compact’s member states. In an
emergency, interstate compacts can help by streamlining workforce mobility between compact member states.
Interstate compacts provide a streamlined process for healthcare workers to practice in participating compact states. Currently, there are active compacts in existence for medical doctors, nurses, physical therapists, psychologists, and emergency medical technicians.
